back from tour

so the tour is over, and i think ive finally readjusted to staying in one place for more than 24 hours.  being away from home (read: my girlfriend) is never fun, but besides that, tour was fantastic.  much better and more fun that i couldve imagined.  it’s hard to really sum up the whole experience in writing, and i havent gotten my photos developed yet, so here are some random thoughts/facts:

the honorary title: the headliners who didnt act like headliners.  they let us invade their dressing room and drink their beers night after night, we exchanged books and laffs, they imparted sage wisdom upon us, they have played in some of our favorite bands, and i just now found out that dustin is only 21 years old.  seriously great dudes, and im gonna play some acoustic shows with jarrod and adam in florida in early september.

favorite show: there were a few standouts.  i expected LA to be annoying and for the people at the venue to be dicks, but the troubadour rules.  all the workers were soooo nice and looked out for us and knew exactly what they were doing.  also, the turnout ruled, the kids were nice, i got to see dirk from doghouse, i got to meet our booking agent sarah (who is incredible and thankfully we didnt play terribly in front of her!), and it was just a really fun night.  NYC was great for a lot of the same reasons as LA: cool staff, good performance, got to hang out with conway from doghouse all day (one of my favorite guys in the world), sweetass turnout, tons of merch sold, and just a fun night.  providence, rhode island was the second-to-last show of tour and was awesome.  everyone seemed to be going kind of nuts, i broke every string on my guitar, bands kept going up on stage in other bands’ sets, i had some good convos and bonding time, and it was the night that really made me sad to see the whole thing come to an end.

the new frontiers: fantastic live band, always made me wanna just sit in the corner and sigh.  i got their record on vinyl and am really excited about it.  they were the coolest most down-to-earth fun and hilarious guys.  and obviously jakob their merch dude was the best merch guy around.

best guy on tour: casey shafer, the honorary title’s tour manager.  he took care of us and looked out for us when he was in no way obligated to.  we owe the majority of our experience to him, and i am very thankful that he was around for this tour and that i got to know him.  he is a really good guy.

favorite moments: i really was a big fan of the overnight drives, if only for the bathroom stops.  we’d usually just pull over to the side of the road at 4am to pee, and in kansas and places like that, the sky was so clear and quiet.  it was just a really cool time to be outside and looking at the stars.

paper rival: badass band, really cool dudes who know exactly what they want.  we definitely fit in the most with them musically, and it was sweet to get to see them play night after night.  i highly recommend their band.

favorite city: san francisco was sweet, but if i could live in any of the cities we went to, it’d probably be lawrence, kansas.  weird, i know, but it just seemed like a really cool place.  much more my style than the big cities.

i guess thats all for now.  basically, tour was cool, i felt like we got pretty good as a band, and i had a lot of fun.  it was nice to make some new friends.
